Teaching Quality Standards
The Alberta Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) outlines six key competencies that all teachers in Alberta are expected to demonstrate throughout their careers.
Competencies of the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard
🤝 1. Fostering Effective Relationships
Building positive and productive relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community. Acting with fairness, respect, and integrity.
🧠 2. Engaging in Career-Long Learning
Ongoing professional learning and critical reflection to improve teaching practices. Collaborating with colleagues and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies.
📚 3. Professional Body of Knowledge
Applying effective planning, instruction, and assessment practices to meet diverse student needs.
🌍 4. Inclusive Learning Environments
Creating environments where diversity is embraced and every student feels welcomed. Fostering equality and respect.
🪶 5. FNMI Foundational Knowledge
Developing and applying knowledge about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures, histories, and worldviews for the benefit of all students.
⚖️ 6. Legal Frameworks and Policies
Adhering to the legal frameworks and policies governing the Alberta education system and professional conduct standards.
